Congrats Christine

July 31 2012

Huge congratulations to Canadian weightlifter, Christine Girard, who won the bronze medal in the 63kg weight division and became the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting!!

She won the bronze medal by successfully completing a 103kg (226lbs.) snatch and a 133kg (292lbs.) clean & jerk which gave her a total of 236kg (519lbs.). She narrowly missed out on the silver medal in her last attempt at her C&J, but after finishing 4th in the Beijing Olympics... I'm sure she is MORE than happy with her 3rd place finish!!

Marlaena and I were fortunate enough to meet and train with Christine a few months ago at CrossFit Vancouver at a weightlifting workshop she hosted. She was incredibly friendly, very helpful and awesome to watch. Her technique is phenomenal and it was incredibly humbling to see how easily she could move such large amounts of weight.

I'm so happy for her and her husband Walter Bailey, who is also her coach, and hope to have the opportunity to train with her again.. Canada's Newest Olympic Bronze Medallist!!
