SportsKids of the Year

January 16 2013

I came across this story about Connor Long and his younger brother Cayden a couple days ago and was blown away by the love and camaraderie shared between these two brothers! It reminded me a lot of Team Hoyt, the father and son team that I wrote a blog about a couple of years ago.

Connor and Cayden Long won the Sports Illustrated 2012 SportKids of the Year award.

Connor is only 9 years old and his younger brother Cayden is 7. Cayden has a condition called hypertonic cerebral palsy and is unable to walk or talk on his own. A couple of years ago, older brother Connor had an idea to enter them both in a local Nashville kids triathlon and now two years and 14 races later the boys are still going strong!

The spirit and determination that these boys possess is so awesome and if watching the video below doesn't inspire you to do something good, I don't know what will. I have so much respect for Connor! He is so mature for his age and is willing to work so hard just to put a smile on his little brothers face.

I also gained a new respect for Lebron James. He won the Sportsman of the Year award on the same night and in his acceptance speech gives all the accolades to the two brothers and tells Connor that he thinks what he's doing for his younger brother is unbelievable.

What a cool story! It made me want to call up my younger brother and tell him I love him!
