MUSCLES ENGAGED Obliques Many people put a lot of focus on working their abs but forget their surrounding neighbors; the oblique muscles. Obliques serve as stabilizers, and are used in almost every physical activity. Exercising your obliques should be a very important part of your workout program. Quadriceps The quadriceps (quads) are a group of four muscles on the front of the thigh. They allow your knee to straighten and provide stability when standing. Your quads are the most important muscle group for maintaining the ability to stand and to walk independently. Equipment Used Cable Machine The cable machine is a piece of equipment used in weight training or functional training. A wide variety of exercises can be performed using the apparatus. Exercise Instructions Step 1 Start in a wide sumo squat stance with your shoulders set back and your lower back flat. Hold the cable in both hands over top of your inside knee. Step 2 Stand up and pull the cable across your body. Keep a slight bend in your elbows and your arms locked, be sure to twist through your trunk. Step 3 Squat back down and lower the cable back down over top of your knee.
